Technical problem- Detecting manifold leak

Old trick

From the 215V8@yahoogroups.com

Hello Bill,
I would strongly suggest you retrofit a vacuum canister to your distributor.
It will greatly help in smoothness and mileage. Also, I would only use manifold vacuum and not ported. I cannot think of any performance builders (street or tract) who recommend ported vacuum.
That may cure your problem but I think another gremlin is at play.
That aftermarket intake manifold may have a vacuum leak between it and your heads. I have experienced that problem on one of my own installations.
Use the old trick of spraying starter fluid around the gasket sealing area while the engine is idling.
If there is a noticeable change in RPM you have found the culprit.
Best to you,
Darius
