Queensland P76 Owners Club Inc. 2003

IMPORTANT NOTICE

A few concerns have arisen from members over the new membership fees. The new membership fee is $40.00, which includes the $20 fee for each member for the Club insurance. The membership fee is only $40.00 in total, NOT $60.00 as some were lead to believe.
At this time I would like to remind members that all membership moneys are past due. The reason that we need all membership dues paid by the 1st of the new financial year is that the Club has to send a cheque down to the Insurance people for each member.
If all dues are in by the start of the new financial year, we can send one cheque at the end of July rather than many small cheques throughout the year. Each cheque the club rights costs money (you know what banks are like), which means less to spend on important stuff like P76 parts.

PRESIDENTS REPORT

I hope that the notice above has cleared up any concerns that have arisen over the membership fees. The good news is that the Club finally has Public Liability Insurance. After a year with no insurance, we have finally found a group that will insure us as a club with out breaking the bank. This also means that we can go back to having Club outings and thing like that. By the time you read this article the Club should have procured some more new P76 parts and they will be available for sale in the next few weeks. A full list will be published in the next magazine with prices and a brief description. I would like to thank all the committee members who have stood down from the previous year for their support and help in running the Club through the difficult times. I hope that this year will be a lot more eventful as we can now have our Club outings without the worries of Public Liability Insurance looming over us. Thanks also has to go out to all the new committee members who have graciously raised their hands and stepped up to take on the roles of their committee position.
Now onto the good stuff.
Somewhere in this magazine there should be a picture of the New Club Jackets that are now available. The Club is selling them for $180.00 each plus $10.00 postage. The jackets are very well made and have the Club logo on the top left hand side. As I own one of these jackets I can vouch that they are very warm and look great.
Please contact either Dave Collins or myself if you wish to purchase one. The New Club T-shirts are still available and are also selling very well. They are $25.00 each plus $4.50 for postage.
It would be good to see everyone turn up to a meeting or an outing in the Club T-shirt and Jacket.
On the National Meeting front, next years National Meeting on the Gold Coast is still going ahead, but slowly. We are still waiting to hear from the Education department on our accommodation and whether or not we can get in. The Recreation centre is under a $26 million redevelopment program. The Club has been put onto a waiting list next and I have been in contact with the curator about our need for the site for Easter. We may have to organise a back up plan for just in case the accommodation is not ready in time. At last count we were looking at $15 to $20 per night per person and $20 to $25

per person per day for meals, which included 3 main meals and morning and afternoon tea's. The only problem so far is that the accommodation is in dorm style rooms that sleep 12 people per dorm.. Once I have the definite price, the Club will need to know exact number as soon as possible. We may only be able to book up to 100 beds and it will be first in, best dressed.
I will hopefully have more news in the next newsletter.
Garth Morris

EDITORS REPORT

Greetings all and welcome to another new year for our club. My name is Dave Collins and I have been elected to the position of editor for the next twelve months.
A big thanks goes to my predecessor, Stan Larter, for getting the job done even under some pretty trying circumstances. For those of you who don't know me, I have been involved with the Leyland P76 since the 1993 National Meeting in Sydney, hosted by the Leyland P76 Owners club of N.S.W.
I joined that club shortly after the National and over the next 8 years or so helped out in different positions on the committee, including editor.
I moved to the Gold Coast in February 2002 and joined the Queensland P76 owners club that month. I currently own and drive an Omega Navy Targa Florio, which was last seen in Canberra at the National Meeting hosted by the Canberra and District P76 owners club.
I'll try to make this magazine as informative and entertaining as possible so if you have any suggestions on its' content please don't be shy, I'd like to hear from you.
I've been able to source a number of compact discs which I'd like to offer up as lucky door prizes for those of you that are able to make it to meetings and outings.
I hope to see you at the next event, Dave Collins

TREADLINES

Here's something a bit different!
Tips: - Drive with your headlights on low beam ALL THE TIME.
This improves your visibility to other road users.
We want to make ourselves as visible as possible so we don't become a statistic. This may increase fuel consumption by around 0.5% and put a little more strain on your alternator but when compared to the benefits of being seen I think it's worth it.
We all know that talking on a mobile phone is illegal whilst driving, that's be- cause it's dangerous.
It's dangerous because it distracts us from concentrating on what we are supposed to be doing-DRIVING!
Here are a few other distracting things we do whilst driving which are not illegal.
Eating/drinking,, adjusting the music you're listening to, and even talking on a mobile phone using a hands free kit.
Consider preparing better for your next trip or take a short break to eat/drink or talk, after all,, who wants the consequences?!

The Back Page

A guy walks into a cafe, sits down and orders 3 flat tyres and a couple of headlights. The waitress looks at him confused, but being new on the job accepts the order. She goes into the kitchen and repeats the order to the cook, he laughs and explains that the customer wants 3 pancakes and 2 eggs sunnyside up. The waitress now educated in the jargon of the cafe returns to the guy with a plate of baked beans. "What's this?" the guy asks. The waitress replies "I thought whilst you were waiting for your tyres and headlights you would like to gas up first!!"

Coffs Harbour

Here's our new Treasurer down at Coffs Harbour. It looks like Warren has finally remembered where he parked his Leyland the Night before.
Next Month I hope to have a full story on Coffs and a couple of other little bits as well.
